Pre-theatre meals are a great tradition, aren't they? What could be nicer than dining in a lively place that also serves up great affordable food?


  • A true hidden local gem, Baby Grand Charing Cross /Browse/Restaurant/Baby_Grand_(Charing_Cross)(reveal best table deals?) has been doing just that for decades now. It still surprises how few people know about this fab place, even among locals. And it really is just round the corner from Kings Theatre. All you have to do is discover which corner you need to turn...;-)

  • Blue Dog stays open into the wee small hours. And often there is live music, be it soul or jazz. Cocktails come in a head-spinning selection - you have been warned!
  • If more live music sounds good to you, why not check out the local icon that is King Tut's ? Several huge bands got their break here. You never know which next Big Stars you'll see here, while you rock into the small hours. Enjoy.

Sometimes its nice to find a quiet place for a drink after (or before) a show. A couple of local gems near Kings Theatre await your pleasure...


  • Cool and laid back, and attracting a relaxed set, Chinaski's hides from view and serves up drinks with great style. Add to this a west facing beer garden, in a city spot that has no right to have one, and we have a recipe for success. Tough to spot, you'll be happy you tracked down this local secret.
  • For some sophistication, the place to visit is without doubt Vroni's . All candles, shining mirrors and creaking wooden floors, this is a gorgeous city centre champagne and wine bar with more bottles of fun on ice than you'll know what to do with! Have fun...

Making the most of a short visit to Glasgow is easy. Why not slip on your tourist hat for a while, pick up your camera and take in one or two sights?

  • In Garnethill, close to Kings Theatre, stands the imposing Glasgow School of Art (tel: +44 (0) 141 353 4500) . Designed by world famous local boy Charles Rennie Mackintosh, it remains a working art school to this day. Tours are often delivered by students. They know the building inside out, and have lots of interesting stories to tell. Don't forget your camera, and make time to have a wander round the cute shop as well.
  • A relaxing stroll along Sauchiehall Street will take you to Kelvingrove Museum . Calmly sitting on the edge of Kelvingrove Park, it promises to have plenty of interest for everyone. With so much on display, that never proves too tough! And its absolutely free. You can't say fairer than that.
