This is such a great bar! Whenever I'm up that end of town, probably doing a bit of loitering among the books in Waterstones, I love to drop by for a pint.

It feels like no-one knows its there, and that makes it extra special for me.

Sunday singer

We were told about Universal by a friend and so glad, she did atmosphere and and food are fabulous and the staff are very friendly.One of those trendy quirky pubs that cateres for all ages lol(im 40) We went on a Sunday in January and the most amazing ( plus cute which I kept telling my husband..LOL) male singer was singing, obviously lol and playing the guitar he sang allsorts from oasis to Take That........He said he would be there every sunday can anyone tell me if he is? and what his name is ?? Go you won't be dissappointed .........

I'm never out Universal...

Hi guys! I wonder if I've seen you in The Universal? Its also a good wee place for some honest, no nonsense grub, which is good.

Gastro pub eating and all those amazing places serving food from all round the world have sprung up EVERYWHERE. That's really great, and I love them. But sometimes a chat with mates and cottage pie or macaroni cheese is what you need.

At least it is for me, at any rate. And The Universal is my favourite place I go for that sort of nosh.
