Thai Orchid sits quietly behind an unassuming window and cute awning in the bustling business district stretch of Argyle Street. Step into the cool interior and feel the relaxing Thai string music work its wonders very quickly. The décor is tasteful and minimal.

Plain white walls are given drama with some well placed photos of Thai ethnic everyday life – close-ups of children and priests in magnificent amber robes demand attention. Staff in Thai dress welcome with deferential smiles, ready to impress.

Thai Orchid staff really are very pleasant, with smiles all over their faces. They females always look cool and elegant, even when busy. Guests receive a polite bow as greeting, and are shown to their tables with grace.

Menus and drinks arrive promptly, and questions about the menu are explained with ease. Altogether, Thai Orchid is very welcoming indeed, which helps explain its continuing popularity with workers from the nearby business district.

what's tasty on your plate?...

Thai food can be too spicy for some, but Thai Orchid covers the hot – cool spectrum with ease, keeping everyone happy. Thai parcels are stuffed with marinated chicken and come with a sweet chilli sauce that will kick without bruising.

Thai Orchid curry has enough lime to add a delicious fruity edge. Following all that spice, ice cream or Thai melon are both usually very welcome ends to a fantastic meal.

what's the speciality of the house?...

Thai fishcakes are surprisingly wholesome and filling, combined with your choice of exotic rice. The red Thai curry, full of crisp vegetables and soaked in a cooling coconut sauce is an unusual spin on Thai cuisine.
