Bar Soba Entertains with a Knowing Cocktail List and Delicious Asian Fusion Food
EAT Asian Fusion in a bar
why should you go?...
Bar Soba is unusual – and all the better for it. Entertaining us on two floors, it manages to create a cosy and lively atmosphere, serving up a long list of classic and cookie cocktails along with Asian Fusion food good enough to make your toes curl.
Try a sushi platter or a satisfying Asian broth. Those in the know are heading to Bar Soba – enjoy!
Hidden in a narrow lane off one of Glasgow’s busiest shopping thoroughfares, Bar Soba’s ground floor bar and intimate basement restaurant are bathed in the natural tones of dark woods, subtle lighting and candles that create a cosy yet energetic atmosphere.
Restaurant space includes a funky area under the stairs, using curtains and enormous cushions as big as beds for seats.
how are the staff?...
Staff in the bar and restaurant are extremely friendly. Working over two floors, we specifically noticed how well they operated as a team. The barman put on a knowledgeable demonstration of mixing a couple of cocktails while dinner was being prepared, and the waitress kept us well informed about exactly what we were ordering.
Even the chap tucked cosily under the stairs folding napkins was cheerily informative on how this rather special dining space was perfect for groups and parties. They genuinely cared that we enjoyed our experience.
what's tasty on your plate?...
As you’d expect in an Asian Fusion restaurant, Bar Soba offers plenty of fish and Thai chilli dishes, as well as wonderfully herbal (and surprisingly filling) Asian broths. Sushi lovers will have plenty to choose from, knowing full well how good for you it all is.
Check out the impressive crockery – either totally square or lopsided – we love it. It’s always refreshing to get a glimpse of the kitchen in operation from the dining area, too.
what's the speciality of the house?...
In addition to the beautifully spiced food on offer, Bar Soba also opts to provide a few dishes with more of a western influence. This means that Bar Soba does pretty well at keeping everyone happy.
what's good in your glass?...
Yes, Bar Soba has a decent range of wines, to keep you happy whether it’s a dry white or a full bodied red that tickles your fancy. Bottled beer selections won’t let you down either. But make no mistake, at Bar Soba cocktails are the name of the game.
And there is quite a selection to choose from, with bar staff happy to demonstrate how to get it just right. Sticking with their South East Asian ethos, maybe you’ll try out a Kowloon Cooler or a Thai Me Down? Of course classics like Cosmopolitan and Side Car are there for your pleasure too, from a list of well over 30 choices. Hic!
what else should you know?...
For those busy in the city, Bar Soba helps to keep your day as smooth-running as possible with express lunches giving you two courses served PDQ: that’s ‘Pretty Damn Quick’ to you and I.
Pre-ordered lunches are available. Guests order in advance and lunch is served as soon as they arrive. Just the thing to keep a busy day on schedule.
Bar Soba offers outside catering, with an initial free consultation about your requirements.
is it good value?...
Bar Soba has a lot going on – all at the same time. Somehow managing to create a cosy and lively atmosphere, you’re treated to expertly made cocktails and food that is simply delicious, smothering the taste-buds with delight after delight.
All the while you’re being attentively looked after by genuinely caring staff. And none of this will break the bank, with the food in particular being competitively priced.
