Fun In Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

by Christina Ronning
(Oslo, Norway)

I am from Norway, and was a student in Glasgow about 20 years ago. Now married with 2 daughters, I brought them over to Glasgow in the summer.

I wanted to see my old best places, and to let them see what a great city Glasgow is.

Of course, I took them into the free museums and galleries. We had a wonderful holiday.

I did not know that Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum had been restored quite recently. It seemed to glow from the inside. I asked about the stonework, and was told that it had been stone-cleaned both inside and out, bringing it back to its original glowing best.

The kids LOVED the museum! There are so many hands-on things for them to do. I was also happy that enough of my English is there, for me to translate the useful information for them.

I miss Glasgow, and my re-visit was perfect. The highlight was probably our day in Kelvingrove Museum.

Best wishes to all in Glasgow

Bowled over by Kelvingrove Museum
by: Roger

The main reason I went to Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum was to see Dali's painting of Christ on the cross.

Amazing, or what?

I hadn't given any thought to what else might be on display. I have to admit to being staggered by what I saw.

Ancient Scottish artefacts, pieces from around the world, lots of religious paintings, stuffed animals, some modern art, statues all over the place, and a Spitfire!

I'm now a fan, for sure. And I got to see Kylie Minoque's tiny gold shorts, back in 2007, when a touring display of her stuff came to Glasgow. ;-)

Enjoying Kelvingrove Art Gallery
by: Amanda

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is one of those places that you can just wander in, take any random corridor and see what takes your fancy.

The collection is so VAST, you can't really see it all in one visit.

So we all have an ideal excuse to keep going back. Since all the work was completed on the building, its much lighter and warmer inside. All the grime since it was built has been peeled away, and it really is gorgeous.

One of the nicest things about the museum is that it acts as host for travelling exhibits. There you have it - another reason to keep going back!

Se ya!
