Queens Cross Church is a Delight!

by Sophie Masters
(Bath)

I was on a tour of some of Scotland's most unusual buildings, and to be honest I'd never even heard of Queens Cross Church.

I doubt others in my party had either!

Boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise. The sun was low, and the building itself gave very little away from the outside...

Once inside, though, the whole place absolutely sings! Vivid stained glass produces splashes of colour all over the place. And (best of all!) the pulpit seems to be growing out of the floor and wall.

What inspired creations!

It seems like Queens Cross Church is something of a hidden local gem, and is WELL WORTH tracking down.

It's on quite a busy junction, and Glasgow seemed to be going about its business, paying this church no heed at all...

Don't you do the same. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Queens Cross Church - An Inspiration!
by: Linda S

Hi there

I visited Glasgow specifically to see what I could from Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

I'd done my research. I knew what I needed to visit. Off I went.

I have to admit that Queens Cross CHurch was last on my list... What a mistake!

It took my breath away. Original and quirky, his use of wood, stone and glass is second to none.

I was left wondering why more isn't made of this remarkable old church.

What an inspiration. What a visit to Glasgow!

Many thanks

Loving Queens Cross Church
by: Julie

I'd heard about Queens Cross Church, and knew where it was - more or less. ;-)

It sure doesn't look like much from the outside, but most of the delights are inside.

What's really nice is that you can wander all over the building, taking as many photos as you like.

Marvellous! The curators at the shop in the back were very friendly, and had plenty of information to hand.

I had a great time visiting Queens Cross Church.

Cheers

Julie
